Council approves $71,004 in additional operational funding for Hotel Topeka

The Topeka governing body on Feb. 11 approved a resolution authorizing additional operational funding of $71,004.49 for Hotel Topeka, after a presentation from Assistant City Manager Brexton Copley.
Copley told council the hotel currently has approximately $150,000 in the operating fund and that projected near‑term expenditures include taxes, payroll, insurance, guest supplies and utilities; the management company asked the city for $71,004.49 to support operations. Councilman Dobler moved to approve the resolution; Councilman Miller seconded and the governing body approved the request.
On roll call seven members voted yes and three voted no. The clerk recorded yes votes from Council members Hiller, Veil (recorded as Kahl/Veil in some roll entries), Miller, Dobler, Duncan, Hofer and Mayor Padilla; Council members Valdivia Acala, Ortiz and Banks voted no. Following the vote, staff said the funding will be allocated to operational expenses identified by the hotel’s management company.
