District reports mostly positive PM2 growth; graduation rate up 4 percentage points

The presentation compared ELA and math proficiency and growth metrics by grade. Staff noted that math proficiency is generally lower than ELA at midyear because end‑of‑year math content has not yet been taught; nevertheless, comparisons of this year’s PM2 to last year’s PM2 showed the district “mostly above where we were at this point last year” for both subjects. The director said the district’s internal growth target is at least 50% of students showing sufficient progress toward on‑track learning gains and that many grade bands met that benchmark.
Assessment staff also summarized district testing for algebra, geometry, civics and biology. The district reported higher algebra proficiency than the prior year, though staff said algebra testing was compressed into a short testing window near the holiday period. For science, the fifth‑grade progress monitoring format is new this year and district staff said proficiency appears lower than the prior year because the tests now sample the full year’s standards earlier in the cycle.
The director reported the district’s official graduation rate increased by 4 percentage points over the prior year, and most sites were ahead of where they were at this point for the graduating cohort.
Board members and staff praised principals’ data review work and asked that principals and site teams present school‑level PM2 outcomes at an upcoming principals meeting and the March workshop. Staff emphasized that growth trends—especially growth from PM1 to PM3 and meeting on‑track learning gains by the end of the year—are the key metrics for accountability.
