District human resources staff updated the board on an upcoming state change requiring fingerprint clearances and background screenings to be processed through the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) clearinghouse, with the change expected to take effect in March.
Courtney, district background screening staff, told the board the new process will require refingerprinting for people not already in the clearinghouse and that districts were given a staggered timeline to comply. She said the district has been resubmitting fingerprints already held in state systems (Falcon/FDLE) to extend the effective period for many employees and to reduce immediate re‑fingerprinting demand.
Courtney said the clearinghouse will centralize screening records from multiple agencies and will allow the district to request background results when someone already has a record with one of the clearinghouse participants. She described the effort as a statewide rollout that will take multiple years and noted staff are preparing processes and schedules now so the district meets timelines.
Board members asked whether all employees will be refingerprinted. Courtney confirmed that employees already in the clearinghouse will not need immediate refingerprinting and that the district will follow the staggered schedule provided by state legislation to avoid mass simultaneous re‑fingerprinting.
PROVENANCE: Background screening and clearinghouse update during HR/operations segment of the January workshop.
