District lays out TRIM-driven budget calendar; board schedules July 24 special meeting

Staff said the property appraiser’s certification on July 1 starts the TRIM clock. The timeline described in the presentation included: a second calculation and required local effort millage rate by July 18; a special board meeting on July 24 to approve the tentative budget for advertisement; newspaper advertisement on July 29; a tentative budget hearing scheduled for July 31 at 5:01 p.m. (to adopt tentative millage and tentative budget); notice of property taxes mailed around August 22; an early September special meeting to approve the annual financial report (approx. Sept. 11); and a final budget hearing scheduled for Sept. 16 at 5:01 p.m. to adopt the final budget.
Board members asked procedural questions about times and quorum. The board directed staff to schedule a special meeting on July 24 and a time was set for 9:00 a.m. to bring the tentative budget for advertisement. Staff said they will schedule additional budget workshops in the spring and provide updates on legislative changes and their expected budget impact.
The finance presentation emphasized coordination with the property appraiser, tax collector and state FEFP (Florida Education Finance Program) calculations that affect required local effort millage and the district’s tentative budget work.
