The Hawaiian Gardens City Council on Feb. 12 appointed Rosie Gomez to the Public Safety Commission to fill an unexpired term ending in March 2026.
A staff report said the vacancy resulted from the resignation of former commissioner Francis Rodriguez and that Mayor De Pala recommended the appointment of Rosie Gomez to serve the remainder of the term. "I just want to thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve," Gomez told the council after introducing herself and noting previous volunteer work in local schools and nonprofits.
Nut graf: The appointment fills a commission seat and the council confirmed Gomez by roll-call vote after councilmembers praised her community involvement and experience with local nonprofit and PTA work.
Councilmembers welcomed Gomez and noted her family's long history in the city and prior volunteer roles at the Friends of the Library and local schools. The council then moved to a formal vote; the roll call recorded yes votes from Council Member Farfan, Council Member Roa, Council Member Vargas, Mayor Pro Tem Del Rio and Mayor De Pala.
Ending: Gomez will serve on the Public Safety Commission through the unexpired term ending March 2026; she and councilmembers thanked former commissioner Francis Rodriguez for prior service.
