Sandra Ferreira Molina, policy and advocacy director at the Connecticut Oral Health Initiative, told the Appropriations Committee she strongly supports House Bill 6,765, “enact concerning dental care services for certain veterans.”
The bill would establish a program, in collaboration with the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, to provide vouchers to cover veterans’ out-of-pocket dental costs, Molina said. “By offering vouchers for dental services, we ensure that those who served our country are not left behind when it comes to their health and well-being,” she said.
Molina described financial barriers veterans face when seeking dental care and argued the voucher program would fill a gap in access. She said dental services are costly and that the program would improve overall health and quality of life for veterans.
No formal action or vote on the bill was recorded during the hearing; testimony was part of the public comment portion of the Appropriations Committee’s hearing on general government and veterans and military affairs units and agencies. The Connecticut Oral Health Initiative urged committee members to support HB 6,765 during subsequent consideration.
