Committee advances several bills in unanimous or voice votes; five measures cleared in executive action

Vice Chair Portillo moved and the committee approved an amendment to House Joint Resolution 11, which urges Congress to propose a constitutional amendment overturning Citizens United; the amendment added additional whereas clauses. The committee then moved HJ 11 as amended to a do-pass recommendation.
The committee also approved House Bill 334, which increases the amount the Department of Military Affairs may use from the disaster fund and shifts emphasis toward recovery planning; Representative Barker and committee members noted the measure came from an interim study and supported the change.
House Bill 349, a return-to-work provision allowing certain retired teachers to be employed by the Office of Public Instruction under limited circumstances for up to five years, cleared executive action on a voice vote.
House Bill 358 increased the monthly stipend for members in the Volunteer Firefighters Compensation Act from $175 to $200; the fiscal note projected the fund would remain above fully funded levels and the committee approved the bill.
House Bill 359 (separate TRS-related mentoring/return-to-work bill) also cleared the committee by voice vote.
