Committee approves cleanup bill to clarify EPSB board representation for small independent colleges

Mason Dyer, representing the Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities, told the committee that 17 of the group's 18 member institutions offer teacher preparation and that the change will make it easier for governors to fill the EPSB seat with a qualified teacher-preparation professional.
A committee substitute was adopted by voice vote; the committee then voted to pass the bill as amended. The committee roll-call recorded unanimous support and the chair said that Senate Bill 77 "passes unanimously." No fiscal changes or policy expansions were described during committee discussion; proponents called the bill a technical clarification to ensure representation for small institutions.
