The Senate Committee on Commerce voted to advance Senate Bill 117, which would amend Kansas statutes to expand property-tax exemption eligibility for property associated with Strother Field Airport Authority.
A bill sponsor told the committee that SB117 would amend KSA language to include property owned by the political subdivisions that make up the Strother Field Airport Commission and depicted on the airport’s federally approved airport layout plan, whether the property is used for aviation-related purposes, to promote aviation commerce, or to provide revenue to operate Strother Field components. SB117 also removes the prior requirement that the property must have been owned on or before Jan. 1, 1992 (as recited in the bill text presented orally to the committee).
The sponsor moved the bill and it received a second from Senator Owens. The committee carried the motion and reported SB117 favorably.
