Votes at a glance: minutes, appointments, library planning committee and lake-district resolution approved

At the Sawyer County administrative committee meeting the body recorded several formal actions: approval of the Jan. 9 minutes, confirmation of two county board appointments, adoption of a resolution to establish a standing county library planning committee, and approval of a resolution asking the state legislature to amend Chapter 33 of the Wisconsin Statutes regarding lake districts.

The committee approved the minutes of the previous meeting on a motion by Tom Duffy (County Board Supervisor) with a second from Mr. Buckles; the outcome was recorded as approved by voice vote.

Two appointments were approved. The committee confirmed the appointment of Dale Magnuson (newly proposed District 15 representative) to the county board and approved Jim Evans for assignment to the public safety committee and the Lac Courte Oreilles (LCO) library board. The motion to appoint Jim Evans was made by John Righeimer (County Board Supervisor) and seconded by Stacy Hessel (County Board Supervisor); both appointments were approved by voice vote.

The committee also approved a resolution to establish a county library planning committee to meet statutory requirements for participation in the Northern Waters Library Service. The resolution sets the committee membership to be those representatives the county already appoints to local library boards and two representatives to Northern Waters Library Service, with the county administrator and the Northern Waters director serving as advisors. The motion to approve the library planning committee was made by Tom Duffy and seconded by John Righeimer; the committee approved the resolution by voice vote.

Finally, the committee passed a resolution to ask the Wisconsin Legislature to amend Chapter 33 (lake districts) to give town and county boards the ability to add conditions to lake-district approvals, including limits on duration and reauthorization requirements. Mr. Regan moved the resolution and Tom Duffy seconded; the motion carried by voice vote. Committee members acknowledged that any legislative change would be a long-term process and would not affect the immediate Callahan Lake petition.

Ending: The committee filed the passed resolutions for transmittal or further staff work; board members were reminded that the Callahan Mud Lake District matter will return to the board agenda next month for final action within the statutory six-month window.
