Paso Robles reports surge in permits and new preapproved ADU plans to speed housing

City planning staff told the council on Feb. 4 that building activity rose in 2024 and the city is moving to simplify accessory dwelling unit (ADU) approvals with preapproved stock plans.
"In 2024, we issued a total of 1,600 permits... That was a 5% increase over the year before," Community Development Director Warren Frates reported. He said permit inspections increased about 29% (almost 7,000 inspections) and the city permitted 310 housing units in 2024, a 35% increase.
