At its Feb. 3 meeting the Hancock County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on a slate of routine administrative items, including a Port & Harbor Commission claim, emergency management purchases, personnel actions in dispatch and several procurement awards.
Key approvals (all motions passed 5–0 unless noted):
- Port & Harbor Commission: The board accepted Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission resolution 2025012701 and allowed payment of claims for Jan. 27 totaling $1,533,026.6. Motion by District 5; second by District 3.
- Emergency Management Agency (EMA): The board authorized payment of $64,063.06 to US Bank/Corporate Governor Leasing and Finance Inc. for a Diamond Head Fire Department loader (from insurance rebate funds). The board also approved renewal of the EMA agreement for Jan. 1–Dec. 31, 2025 at a total cost of $9,221.69 and authorized the board president to sign.
- Dispatch personnel and pay adjustments: The board approved personnel changes in dispatch that included hiring two full‑time dispatchers (pending physical and drug screening) at $14.85 per hour and pay adjustments for existing dispatchers to reflect years of service (detailed in the personnel motion). Those personnel actions were approved and spread on the minutes.
- Procurement and contracts: The board ratified modified acceptance of lowest responsive bidders for janitorial supplies (Imperial and Suncoast as noted in the bid tab), accepted several annual term bids (unprocessed gravel, pest control, limestone and others), approved First Bank as the county depositary for two years ending Dec. 31, 2026, and approved a 48‑month rental lease for a Canon imageRUNNER copier (monthly contract amount as stated in the packet). The board also ratified the single audit certification form submitted to MDOT.
- Appointments and grants: The board reappointed Clarence Harris to the Hancock County Human Resource Agency with a term expiring Nov. 30, 2028, and ratified April Shaiyu as the county’s authorized representative for grants.gov and related portals.
A motion to approve a lease, estoppel and agreement related to the Moonshot solar project (with Hancock County School District as landlord) also passed 5–0; the action was made contingent on the school district confirming estoppel statements and on county attorney review.
Most votes on routine business were handled without extended discussion. Several motions were moved and seconded by various district supervisors as indicated in the official meeting minutes and the motions were spread on the minutes as recorded.
