Point-in-time count completed Jan. 23; volunteers found one deceased person and teams continue data cleaning

Council staff debriefed the Jan. 23 point-in-time (PIT) count: more than 100 volunteers participated, teams distributed supplies, data are being cleaned for duplicate counts and one deceased person was found by a counting team (not believed to be a cold-weather death).
Allison Lisonbee and Council staff reported a preliminary debrief of the Jan. 23 point-in-time (PIT) count at the Feb. 13 meeting. Staff said more than 100 volunteers participated, including city and nonprofit partners and the mayor, and that volunteers picked up donated food, clothing and Narcan for distribution during field counting.
Staff said the PIT data are still being cleaned to remove duplicate counts. They also reported an incident in which a counting team discovered a deceased person while conducting outreach; Metro Police responded and staff said it did not appear to be a cold-weather death based on available information. Staff said they spoke with the counting team promptly to provide support and self-care resources.
Council members asked for a formal PIT debrief on the next meeting agenda; staff agreed and said the point-in-time subcommittee had already held initial debriefing and would share findings as the dataset is finalized.
A volunteer and council member also recommended additional supplies (food and utensils) for next year’s teams and said teams with heavier workloads had insufficient supplies this year.
The PIT subcommittee will complete data cleaning and report final counts to HUD and the community after deduplication and quality checks.
