The Tuscaloosa City Council approved a slate of licenses, minor public-works contracts, disbursements and code changes during its meeting. Most items were adopted on the consent agenda or by unanimous voice vote.
Licensing: The council approved off-premises retail licenses for a new convenience store operating as Tide Mart at 2215 15th Street (application 25-002A for retail table wine off premises only and application 25-002 for retail beer off premises only). The council also approved multiple short-term/special-event retail licenses for Downtown Entertainment LLC (application 25-007) for events at locations including 312 University Boulevard, 920 Paul W. Bryant Drive and 2301 Joe M. Moundshawn Parkway; the police department reported no objections to those applicants.
Contracts and procurement: The council authorized several “as-needed” and minor public works contracts. Among actions recorded on the transcript: tentative award of a public works contract to Apex Civil Construction LLC; minor public works contracts with Straight Line Fence LLC, Chip Griffith Construction Inc., Patrick Allen Companies, Cynthia’s Awnings, and an as-needed FY25 minor public works contract with 1 Call Services LLC. Resolutions authorizing those awards were moved and seconded and adopted by voice vote.
Disbursements and funding: The council approved disbursements from District 1 improvements funds for Westlawn Middle School, Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School, and programming at Benjamin Barnes YMCA for 2025. The council also authorized execution of an amendment to the municipal agency funding contract with the Tuscaloosa Sister Cities Commission.
Grants and interlocal agreements: The council authorized execution of a cooperative agreement and submission of a grant application for the 2026 West Alabama recycling program (ADEM fund grant) and approved the downtown riverfront overlay district permit for the Element Hotel.
Ordinances and budget: The council amended ordinance number 93-51, amended various sections of the Tuscaloosa Code related to the 2025 zoning code, and amended section 19-62(b) of the code as recorded in the transcript. The council also approved Amendment No. 5 to the FY2025 general fund budget and declared certain city property surplus and authorized disposal.
Process notes: For multiple routine items the transcript records motions “moved and seconded by Mr. Wilson” or “moved and seconded by Mr. Lanier” and repeated affirmative voice votes. When applicants or representatives were present, staff introduced the item and the police department noted no objections. The minutes show standard unanimous or near-unanimous voice votes for consent-agenda items; the transcript excerpt did not consistently capture full roll-call tallies for every item.
