Routt County, city to hold Feb. 3 joint meeting focused on housing and Excel energy project

Routt County commissioners and city officials will meet for a joint session on Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. in the county commission chambers to discuss housing and provide an update on the Excel ERP/energy project, county Manager Jay reported at the Jan. 27 work session.
Jay said the county will host the meeting, with lunch at 12:30 p.m., and that county planning staff member Christy is scheduled to present a county update on the housing-guidelines study currently underway. Jay said there will also be a brief update on the Excel ERP process.
Sonia, a municipal representative who attended a pre-meeting with Jay, told commissioners the city's priorities for joint meetings are housing, environmental sustainability, fiscal sustainability and transportation. The county and city agreed to emphasize housing and to keep the joint meeting interactive rather than presentation-heavy.
County staff also said they were concerned that the community is not tracking the planned closure of the Excel power plant closely enough and that the joint meeting is an opportunity to inform local leaders and explore potential responses. Commissioners requested clarity on who would present and what level of information would be provided; staff indicated more discussion is planned in an upcoming executive session.
