New Kershaw County voter registration director outlines priorities, seeks second early-voting site

Nico Jarena Reddick introduced herself to Kershaw County Council on Feb. 11 as the county’s new voter registration director and outlined priorities for improving early voting access and communication.
Reddick said she assumed the director role on Oct. 14, 2024, after serving on the office staff for special elections earlier in the year. She told council Kershaw County has about 69,905 residents and 44,162 registered voters. Reddick said the office’s mission is to promote voter registration, maintain voter records, educate voters and conduct fair elections in compliance with state and federal law.
Among her near-term priorities, Reddick said she is working to secure a second early-voting location in the Lugoff-Elgin area for statewide elections and to review current voting locations to ensure they meet population needs. She also said the office will increase outreach and work to ensure poll workers are properly compensated; Reddick noted a pending state bill (HB 3551) addressing poll-worker pay.
Council members thanked Reddick and urged faster availability of early-voting locations in growth areas of the county. Reddick and council agreed to continue working together through the budget process to address compensation and staffing needs.
