The Saucon Valley School District Board of Directors approved a cooperative athletic agreement that would allow Palisades High School students to play on Saucon Valley’s boys’ lacrosse team if Palisades’ board concurs and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) grants permission.
Board members and athletics staff explained the agreement at the Feb. 11 meeting, saying the pair must petition the PIAA and show a historical need for a co‑op. The board was told the co‑op would apply only to boys’ lacrosse and would not change Saucon Valley’s classification for other sports. Athletic staff said Palisades athletes who join would register through Saucon Valley, wear Saucon Valley uniforms, travel with the team and be counted on Saucon Valley’s roster for that sport.
Financial arrangements will be laid out in the agreement. Athletic staff said they calculate a per‑player cost based on total team costs and roster size; that per‑player figure becomes part of the arrangement for Palisades athletes. The board noted that Palisades’ board must also approve the stipulations before the PIAA will be asked to permit the co‑op.
Board members described the move as a way to sustain opportunities for students in a sport that has struggled with participation numbers in recent years. The motion to approve the finance package that included the cooperative agreement passed on voice vote; no roll‑call tally was recorded.
Ending: The agreement will proceed to Palisades’ board (if approved there) and then to the PIAA for final authorization; details of any per‑player cost and final eligibility will be specified in the formal interdistrict agreement and PIAA petition.
