County assessor's office authorized to help Sedgwick County under MOU

Pueblo County approved a memorandum of understanding allowing the Pueblo County assessor's office to provide technical assistance to Sedgwick County; the agreement includes language intended to limit Pueblo County's liability, officials said.
The Pueblo County Board of County Commissioners on Feb. 11 approved a memorandum of understanding that will allow the Pueblo County assessor's office to provide technical assistance to the Sedgwick County assessor.
Frank Beltran, Pueblo County assessor, said this will be the eleventh county his office has assisted since he took office in 2007 and described the work as substantial, not merely answering questions. He said the Sedgwick County assessor has set up accommodations and that Pueblo staff will travel three days at the end of the month to help prepare commercial and vacant-land files for the state auditor. "We will give recommendations, but they have the final say so," Beltran said, describing the county-to-county support.
County staff said the MOU includes language intended to protect Pueblo County from liability for the assistance. Commissioners commended the assessor's office for volunteering expertise to smaller counties that lack staff capacity. The motion to approve the MOU carried by voice vote.
