Village engineers and utility staff updated the Cottage Grove Utility Commission on Feb. 12 about development‑related utility work, the status of Well 2, and routine operations.
The engineer reported that Quarry Ridge is under construction and is installing sewer and water laterals and storm sewer; Westlawn (Fifth edition) remains delayed pending developer input on its lift station. The Amazon facility permitting has the water permit approved and the sewer permit pending. The Heyday development (north of Shady Grove) is scheduled for plan‑commission review; the developer is providing a 12-inch water loop and 12-inch sewer lines to help serve future parcels west and north.
On Well 2, staff said a preliminary floor plan and elevations have been presented and a preliminary engineering report is being prepared; details will return to the commission as the redesign and reconstruction proceed. Staff said operational notes tied to Well 2 are being addressed through that design work.
The director reported that staff dewatered an air‑release valve on a force main to inspect for infiltration and identified corrosion/pinhole concerns in the valve top; the valve will be added to annual maintenance checks. The director also said Madison Metropolitan Sewer District (MMSD) has a new executive director, Eric Dundee, and that village staff plan to meet with MMSD leadership in April. Finally, staff updated the village website to publish current project status pages and said the village submitted a monitoring‑well waiver application and remains waived from additional sampling requirements.
