Board signs letter urging state to shift $100 million to child care assistance program

Pueblo County commissioners on Feb. 6 placed on the consent agenda and approved a letter to the Colorado Joint Budget Committee asking the state to reallocate $100 million from universal prekindergarten funding to the Colorado Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP).
County attorneys said the letter was drafted following a work session the previous week and would be signed by all board members and other counties that support the request. The letter asks the Joint Budget Committee to shift funding to CCAP to avoid reductions to child-care assistance.
"We're also signing with many other counties to encourage our state to not cut this program in lieu of other programs," a county presenter said during the meeting, noting the request is part of a multi-county effort to prioritize CCAP.
The item was carried on the consent calendar and approved by voice vote. No further discussion was recorded at the public meeting.
