DNR sanitary survey identifies reporting updates; utility staff to update materials inventory and emergency contacts

Utility staff told the Cottage Grove Utility Commission on Feb. 12 that the three-year sanitary survey by the Department of Natural Resources found the village’s water operations to be generally compliant but requested specific reporting corrections.
Utility Department staff said the DNR noted two items of significance in the report packet included with the meeting materials: (1) the village’s submitted materials/service-line inventory format did not match the DNR’s preferred reporting format and staff will reformat and resubmit the inventory; and (2) the village emergency response plan lists individuals no longer employed by the village and must be updated. "We still have no lead. We have met that expectations. It's just the reporting aspect was not what they were looking for," Utility Department staff said, adding the emergency response plan revisions are on staff’s quarter‑1 or quarter‑2 priority list for 2025.
Staff also reported a couple of operational notes associated with Well 2 that are being addressed as part of the well's redesign and reconstruction; otherwise, the DNR survey identified no operational deficiencies requiring immediate corrective action. The village remains eligible for a monitoring‑well waiver and will not add sampling points, staff said.
The commission did not take formal action; staff will update the materials inventory reporting and revise the emergency response plan and return to the commission as needed.
