Pueblo County to prepare letter supporting Fountain Creek Watershed District WaterSMART grant

County Manager Genesio told the Board of County Commissioners on Jan. 28 that the Fountain Creek Watershed District has applied to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation’s WaterSMART grant program for a Frost Creek Ranch project and requested a county letter of support.
Genesio described the project as including sediment reduction, erosion control, riparian habitat enhancement and downstream benefits and asked the board whether the chair should sign a support letter. A commissioner said, "I'm fine with it," and Genesio said staff would prepare the letter for the chair to sign.
The county did not specify grant request amounts, timelines or required commitments beyond the requested letter of support. The Fountain Creek Watershed District’s application to the Bureau of Reclamation’s WaterSMART program, if funded, would fund on-the-ground work the district described to the county as sediment and erosion control and riparian improvements at Frost Creek Ranch.
Why it matters: a signed local-government support letter is commonly requested by federal grant programs and can strengthen an applicant’s submission. County staff will prepare the letter and forward it to the Fountain Creek Watershed District as requested.
