Other council members spoke in favor, calling the selection consistent with past practice when a vacancy occurs in a partisan seat. A member who said he had appointed several interim members in his tenure described the process as the customary courtesy of replacing a seat with a member of the same party. The council president called for a roll-call vote; the motion carried with one abstention.
After the vote, Ambrosia came to the podium, identified himself as a resident of Mount Lebanon and said he planned to run for the seat at the end of the interim term. “I have a unique history in business and commercial real estate,” he said, and added that he intended to “serve the constituents of Allegheny County.”
