Becky Lambert, representing the Meadowood Garden Club, asked the City Council to approve city funding to complete an Angel of Hope Children’s Memorial Garden and asked the clerk to place a related resolution on the council’s next agenda.
The request matters because the club said the garden would provide a public, permanent place for families to remember children and would be funded in part by city support if the council approves. Lambert said the club has been working on the project since hearing about the Angel of Hope memorial concept and described the planned garden as a “beautiful and serene place for people to go and remember their loved ones and friends.”
Lambert told the council the Meadowood Garden Club was established in 1972 and is limited by its bylaws to 18 members. The club said it committed to raising half of the estimated $50,000 cost and has raised $32,000 so far; that leaves approximately $18,000 still needed, she said. Lambert said the group plans to sell engraved pavers when the garden is complete and that donations remain open.
City staff did not present a funding ordinance or motion at the meeting; Lambert asked the city clerk to place a resolution on a future agenda so council members could consider funding. No formal council vote or funding commitment was recorded at this meeting.
The council did not take action after the presentation; the item will return if and when a resolution is placed on a future agenda.
