Park County approves closeout of State Historical Fund payment for Perris Mill Phase 7

The vote formalizes the county’s acceptance of work completed in summer 2024 under a grant from the State Historical Fund (administered by History Colorado), which the commissioners said did not rely on local tax dollars.
Commissioners praised the work done by the South Park Heritage Area and its contractors. "They're doing great work there. Hopefully, in the near future, this coming summer, it may be open for some limited tours," said Commissioner Mitchell. He added that the site is "a treasure that is being taken care of to the point where soon the public's gonna be able to put eyes on it." The board noted prior review of the project in a morning work session with Andy from the South Park Heritage Area and staff.
The motion to approve the closeout was made during the regular meeting and carried on a 3-0 voice vote. Commissioners said the project was funded through the State Historical Fund grant rather than local dollars but did not provide additional financial detail in the meeting record.
The commissioners did not set a public opening date at the meeting, but several members said they anticipate limited tours this summer and expressed appreciation for the work of staff and volunteers on the rehabilitation effort.
Copies of the closeout documents and the payment request were included in the meeting packet and were discussed in the morning administrative session prior to the vote. The board did not take further action on related funding at the Feb. 11 meeting.
