The Laramie Planning Commission voted 7-0 Feb. 10 to approve a conditional use permit amendment allowing Laramie Interfaith to enclose and reconfigure portions of its building at 712 Canby Street.
Philip, planning division staff, told commissioners the application proposed interior changes on the north and east sides of the building — moving a door, creating a new waiting room and enclosing a lightly used patio to create office space. Because the organization’s prior CUP (approved in 2020) governed the use, the municipal code requires the commission review changes to approved plans. Philip said no changes to ingress/egress, circulation, off-street parking or refuse areas are proposed and that all previously adopted CUP conditions would continue.
Josh Watanabe, executive director of Laramie Interfaith, described the project as interior reconfiguration: “The entry door that's being changed next to the parking lot will move into a new waiting room,” and the enclosed patio will be repurposed as office space. Commissioners asked whether the changes would cause patrons to spill out the door; Watanabe said the enclosed waiting room will reduce queuing at the counter.
Commissioner Tom moved to approve the CUP “based on findings of fact and conclusions of law and subject to all of staff's recommended conditions.” A second was recorded. Roll-call votes were recorded as: Pacino — aye; Evans — aye; Matamore — aye; Heiser White — aye; O’Toole — aye; Schneider — aye; Moody — aye. The motion carried 7 yes, 0 no.
Staff emphasized that the approved conditions are the same as those attached to the 2020 permit and that the addition must meet building-code requirements for any new work.
