Kern County recognizes animal-rescue leader Robbie Miller; supervisors praise spay-and-neuter efforts

The Kern County Board of Supervisors on Feb. 11 recognized Robbie Miller, founder of Strength of Shadows dog rescue, as the First District citizen of the year for his animal-rescue work.
Supervisor Peters introduced Miller and cited Miller's work rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming dogs, organizing spay-and-neuter clinics, and partnering with Kern County Animal Services on adoption events. Nick Cohen, director of Kern County Animal Services, described Miller's work as "redemption, resilience, compassion" and noted his role in collaborative efforts such as Kern Safe, a multi-agency coalition intended to reduce euthanasia in shelters.
Robbie Miller thanked the board and specifically referenced board support for recent spay-and-neuter funds: "I just wanna thank you guys, especially Nick and Philip, for proving that second chances are obtainable... I just wanna thank you guys too for approving the spay and neuter funds that you guys just did," Miller said. The recognition included a certificate and public remarks from staff and supervisors; no formal vote was required for the presentation.
Supervisors and staff praised the rescue's community role and encouraged continued collaboration on animal-services programs and voluntary clinics throughout the county.
