Neighbor group asks county to update traffic and noise studies for proposed McIntyre development

Lynn Clemens and other community members told the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners on Feb. 4 the county should require updated traffic and noise studies for a proposed development at 5950 McIntyre to avoid future conflicts over noise, traffic and safety.
Clemens, who identified herself as a local resident and neighborhood organizer, said the present traffic analysis is two years old and does not account for new developments and increased truck volumes. “What’s going to happen when we have 300 truck trips going up and down McIntyre and the noise will be right next to my community?” she asked, noting proposed nearby rental projects and warehouse traffic that could change conditions on McIntyre.
She urged a fresh traffic analysis using current counts and a “real noise assessment” before the county approves the project so residents do not face the same problems later that other neighborhoods are raising now. Clemens said community organizing and public comment were already underway and called on the county to “do what’s right for the people” so residents will not have to return with the same complaints in a few years.
Commissioners acknowledged the testimony; no action was taken at the meeting.
Ending: Speakers asked that the county require updated traffic and noise information from the developer and to take a precautionary approach to permitting to limit future neighborhood impacts.
