Friday Otuya, NextTech community engagement specialist, told the board that NextTech has been deploying fiber broadband in Saline County for several years and characterized fiber as the most capable broadband technology for education, health care and economic development. Otuya said NextTech is presenting the certificate to signal the county''s readiness to attract investment and support entrepreneurship.
Otuya also described two initiatives included with the presentation packet: a NextTech-administered revolving loan fund to provide low-interest loans to local entrepreneurs and small businesses, and an explainer on the federal Universal Service Fund that staff said can help subsidize broadband deployment to rural schools, health centers and hospitals. John Hendricks, who manages NextTech''s local store, added the company is close to finishing splicing and final installation in several rural areas and that remaining mileage work is underway.
No board action was taken; the presentation concluded with the certificate exchange and brief remarks of appreciation.
