Rachel Delman Parsons, Social Services Director, told the Lake County Board of Supervisors that staff have been seeking long‑term care placement for a conserved individual known in the record as BB, who was released from jail and is a registered 290 offender. Parsons said the person has Medi‑Cal but placement has been difficult and the board previously authorized funding for six months in the amount of $30,000 and requested quarterly updates.
Parsons said staff contacted more than 90 facilities statewide and identified 39 potentially suitable placements, excluding any facility within one mile of a school because of the individual's restrictions. She said staff contact those facilities weekly; at one facility the individual's position on the waiting list moved from 12 to 8 between January and February. Parsons said staff are working to stabilize the individual's medical condition and set a goal to secure a placement by May 1; if placement is not secured staff will return with an update in April.
Board members expressed discomfort with the situation and noted a statewide shortage of available facilities. No board action was taken at the meeting; the item was presented as a quarterly update to a funding authorization the board had already approved.
