County pursues wetland mitigation options for Canyon Road 522 project; in‑lieu fee credits under review

Road and Bridge staff reported on Feb. 4 that the county is working with a wetland consultant and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to evaluate alternative mitigation options for the Canyon Road 522 project.
Staff said the county is investigating an in‑lieu fee program that would allow purchase of wetland credits in the Upper Colorado River service area as an alternative to on‑site mitigation. The county expects to present a contract amendment with Birch Ecology, the wetland consultant, in the coming weeks to support further consultations with the Corps and project permitting.
Staff told commissioners they hope to have a final decision from the Corps this spring about mitigation strategy; the timeline remains uncertain, but staff said the Corps has been cooperative.
