The Shawnee County Board of County Commissioners approved a slate of routine and substantive items during its Feb. 6 meeting. The board voted 3-0 on each recorded motion below.
Votes at a glance
- Consent agenda: Approved (motion by Commissioner Cook, second by Commissioner Rippon). The consent agenda covered multiple routine items; vote 3-0.
- Voucher payments: Approved (motion by Commissioner Rippon, second by Commissioner Cook). Voucher report total: $3,798,081.76. The packet identified a $462,000 payment to Axon Enterprise as the first payment on the sheriff's Fusus system, funded by the 2024 COPS grant.

- Parks and Recreation personnel reclassification: Approved eliminating one vacant 20–29 hour position and converting five 30–39 hour part-time shelter-cleaning positions to full-time, elevating one to lead worker, with an estimated annual savings of $13,000–$14,000 for the department (motion moved and seconded; vote 3-0).
- Public works pavement contract: Approved Contract C404-2025 with SBB Engineering LLC to provide design and construction engineering services for a pavement replacement project on Southeast Croco Road; lump-sum cost: $67,120 (motion by Aaron Mays, second by Bill Rippon; vote 3-0). The project will remove degraded concrete pavement and place full-depth asphalt; base repairs will be performed as needed.
- Solid Waste purchases: Approved awarding the commercial-container purchase to Waste Equip Manufacturing Co., LLC, and roll-off containers to Fleet Genius of North Carolina, Inc.; both purchases funded from the 2025 solid-waste operational fund (100% user fees, not general tax revenue). The board also approved a $55,000 payment to Keep America Beautiful for calendar year 2024 (the payment was budgeted but not previously disbursed). Motions carried 3-0.
- Countywide uniforms RFP: Approved issuance of a request for proposals to replace the county's uniform-services contract expiring June 30, 2025; the new contract will be for three years (motion to issue RFP; vote 3-0).
- Home rule resolution HR-2025-1, property and vehicle insurance committee: First reading held. County counselor Rich Eckert presented a home-rule resolution to establish a county property and vehicle insurance committee involving audit and finance, human resources, the county counselor and the county clerk. No final action was taken; the item will return for further consideration.
