"If it's a no-change policy, perhaps why it's no change," one member suggested as a useful cover note for staff to supply.
Superintendent Dr. Reed said staff is preparing a policy-review plan and that a contractor who will help organize the work was onboarding more slowly than expected. She committed to returning a "skeleton of the plan" for committee feedback by Feb. 18 and to working with the clerk and governance chair to finalize the approach.
After extended discussion about whether the committee should continue to consider individual policy edits while the broader plan is developed, the committee took a motion to pause one-off approvals until staff presents the plan and to review time-sensitive redlines (if any) only as necessary. The motion was recorded as approved by the committee; meeting notes show a vote tally reported in the meeting transcript as passing. The governance committee chair announced the next governance meeting would be held Feb. 18, 2025, and asked staff to prepare the plan and any urgent redlines for that meeting.
Committee members volunteered to help draft the plan and asked staff to provide a schedule of policy-review tranches, recommended contents for a cover sheet, and a proposed routing workflow for BoardDocs and governance review.
Next steps: Superintendent's office will provide a draft policy-review plan and an initial list of time-sensitive policies for governance consideration at the Feb. 18 meeting.
