Shawnee County commissioners elect new chair, approve organizational resolutions

At its Jan. 13, 2025, special organizational meeting, the Shawnee County Board of County Commissioners elected Commissioner Aaron Mayes as chair, named Commissioner Bill Rippon vice chair and approved a series of routine organizational items, including two resolutions setting courthouse hours and the county's official newspaper.
The changes came at the start of the board's regular meeting following a swearing-in. Commissioner Cook moved to nominate Mayes as chair; Commissioner Rippon seconded the motion, which passed, 3-0. Later the board approved a nominations list of commissioner appointments to outside boards and committees, also by a 3-0 vote.
The commissioners also approved Resolution No. 2025-2, which sets days and hours the courthouse and administrative building will be open, the dates and times of commission meetings and agenda procedures; and Resolution No. 2025-3, designating the official county newspaper. Both resolutions passed, 3-0.
Other routine business included approval of correction orders. Commissioner Aaron Mayes moved to approve the correction orders; Commissioner Cook seconded the motion and it passed, 3-0.
