Shawnee County commissioners voted Jan. 9 to award capital projects at the Stormont Vail Event Center, approving a $295,520 contract to TC Armstrong Inc., d/b/a Rainbow of the Heartland, for a modular sports flooring surface, and a $49,900 contract to Langford Enterprises to resurface and repair an existing basketball court.
A Stormont Vail representative told the board the overall CIP allocation for the project covers repairs, new flooring and new basketball goals. The representative requested a transfer of $18,640 from equipment and repairs into the modular flooring line so the RFP award could be covered within the 2025 capital outlay allocation; staff said the total CIP still was expected to come in below the overall budget and that roughly $5,000 would remain after the projects are completed.
Commissioner Kevin Cook moved to approve the $295,520 award; Commissioner Aaron Mayes seconded. The motion passed 3-0. The resurfacing and repair award to Langford Enterprises, the only bid received for that portion, was approved on a separate motion and passed 3-0.
Stormont Vail staff said the final portion of the CIP โ new basketball goals โ will return to the commission after clarifying questions to bidders are answered. The county will pay both contracts from the 2025 capital outlay fund.
