Doral council approves partnership with SOUTHCOM and veterans application workshops

The City Council on Feb. 12 approved a resolution directing the city manager and human resources department to set up a partnership with U.S. Southern Command and to organize veterans application workshops to help veterans transition to civilian employment with the city.
Councilman Rafael Pinedo said the initiative arose from conversations with veterans and city staff and called for three steps: establish the SOUTHCOM pipeline, hold application workshops to translate military experience into civilian qualifications, and launch a social-media campaign led by the public affairs department. "This workshop certainly will help them to structure resumes and applications," Pinedo said, describing the goal of improving veterans' access to city jobs.
Peter Espinosa, a Doral resident and veteran who organizes a monthly Veterans Breakfast Club, described the program as a practical resource to aid the transition to civilian life and thanked councilmembers for backing the effort. Vice Mayor Maureen Porras moved the resolution; Councilwoman Nicole Reynoso seconded. The motion passed with recorded yes votes.
The resolution directs HR to organize the workshops and the public affairs department to run outreach including a promotional video and interactive social posts. The City Clerk recorded the vote as yes by Vice Mayor Porras, Councilwoman Reynoso, Councilman Pinedo and Mayor Chrissy Fraga.
