Summary
Commissioners approved JRK Portable Welding invoice #2772 for $6,975 to repair a heavily damaged compactor box and directed staff to assess whether remaining containers should be repaired or replaced.
Linn County authorized payment of $6,975 to JRK Portable Welding to replace major structural components on a damaged compactor box and asked staff to evaluate whether remaining boxes should be repaired or replaced.
Sean West provided photos and a condition report for the compactor containers, saying the final boxes had significant structural damage: “This box, the back door has been completely damaged, been out of shape. ... the floor itself is ... gouged beyond repair and has to be replaced,” he said. West said the repairs involved cutting and replacing compromised steel components and that job invoices would be processed through the county’s claims process.
A motion to approve invoice number 2772 from JRK Portable Welding in the amount of $6,975 was moved and seconded; commissioners approved the payment by voice vote. Staff explained earlier repairs averaged several thousand dollars each and that a new replacement box could cost roughly $10,500 to $11,000. The county will evaluate the final unit and bring back a recommendation on repair-versus-replace for the remaining container.
