Public works staff described proposed rehabilitation for sanitary Lift Station No.13, including an installed flow meter and an 8x8 electrical control building; staff said they will contact the adjacent homeowner about placement and aesthetics and asked the council to authorize WSN to prepare plans and specifications at a future meeting.
City public works staff outlined a proposed rehabilitation of sanitary Lift Station No.13 and asked the council to authorize WSN to prepare plans and specifications during the Jan. 28 East Grand Forks City Council work session.
Staff said Lift Station No.13 sits in the southeast corner of the intersection of 20 Third Street NW and Third Avenue NW and was constructed after the 1997 flood as part of temporary housing development. Staff estimated the facility is about 26 years old and said piping and fittings in the wet well are deteriorating and in need of replacement.
"This lift station is unique because it is in a resident's yard," Mr. Stordahl said, describing the site’s constraints. Staff proposed installing a flow meter and constructing an 8-by-8-foot electrical control building to house the station’s electrical components, which now sit in an exposed electrical box that experiences snow accumulation, shorts and corrosion.
Stordahl said if council moves forward, staff will contact the homeowner to discuss building placement and aesthetics; staff said they had considered options such as matching paint colors so the small structure would be less conspicuous. WSN provided an engineer's estimate for the rehabilitation; staff said they would return to a future council meeting to request formal authorization to proceed with plans and specifications.
No formal council action on the project was recorded during the work session.
