Water plant paid 2024 permit; plant reports higher pumping and upcoming sampling and compliance steps

City water plant staff told the Water and Lake Commission that the 2024 water permit has been paid to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and that the plant pumped 310,000,000 gallons in 2024, up from 304,000,000 gallons in 2023. The permit cost was $2,822.
"The 2024 water permit has been paid to the DNR. In 2024, we pumped 310,000,000 gallons, which is up from 304,000,000 gallons in 2023. Cost of that permit was $2,822," said Brian, a water plant staff member. Staff also reported they have completed the 2024 hazardous chemical inventory report and are waiting for EPA certification.
Staff said IPS completed first-quarter calibrations on the plant meters and will assist with SCADA integrations. A webinar on Feb. 12 will explain proper sampling requirements and the sample site plan submission process with the Minnesota Department of Health; staff said sampling is scheduled for late summer to early fall. The Lake Area Water Authority technical advisory committee (LAWA TAC) has an operations planning subcommittee webinar scheduled Feb. 18.
Staff did not present new regulatory proposals or ask the commission to take formal action on these compliance items; updates were informational and will guide upcoming operational work and reporting.
