Water plant staff described the internship as an opportunity for a local student, particularly those studying engineering or chemistry, to gain exposure to water-plant operations and potentially create a local recruiting pipeline. "The water plant would like to to offer a summer internship to a local student within the community. Work would be limited to a hundred working days for a full time student. The position is budgeted for in 2025," said Brian, a water plant staff member.
The commission moved and approved the request without opposition. Commissioners registered their votes by roll call: Commissioner Grundy, Commissioner Quirk, Commissioner Rapace and Commissioner Riopelle all voted yes. The commission did not specify a hiring timeline or further qualification criteria in the meeting record.
The internship will remain contingent on staff follow-up to begin recruitment and any hiring approvals required by city personnel rules or budget controls. Staff indicated the role could serve as a recruiting tool to introduce local students to careers in water operations.
No additional conditions or amendments were added during the vote.
