Carver County representative updates committee on vaccines, respiratory illness trends

Cara Cassidy, introduced as the Carver County Public Health Office of Aging representative, told the Senior Advisory Committee that Carver County is still offering flu and COVID-19 vaccinations and listed four remaining clinics: Feb. 4, Feb. 18, March 4 and March 18.
"Carver County is still offering flu and COVID vaccines. There are 4 clinics left. February 4, February eighteenth, March fourth, and March 18," Cassidy said.
Cassidy gave a brief public-health snapshot for the region: overall respiratory-illness activity was high at the time of the meeting; COVID-19 activity was low and decreasing; flu activity was high and increasing; and RSV activity was moderate and increasing. She added that vaccination among people 65 and older has increased, reporting about a 12% rise in vaccinations for that age group compared with the prior year.
Cassidy said she would check whether Carver County offers an RSV vaccine and would provide a flyer and informational materials to the city for distribution.
Why it matters: vaccination clinics and public-health trends affect older adults disproportionately; committee members asked staff to share the county materials with the committee and the community.
