Council directs Public Utilities Commission and HRA to move meetings to City Hall chambers starting in February

The Brainerd City Council on Jan. 21 directed the Brainerd Public Utilities Commission (BPU) and the Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) to move their public meetings to the City Hall chambers, beginning with the February meeting schedule, to make meetings more accessible and to use existing audiovisual equipment for recording and posting.
Council members said the BPU and HRA meeting rooms are smaller and less suited to recording and streaming to YouTube and cable; several members urged making meetings more accessible to the public. The council motion was amended to specify a February start so the change would not conflict with notices for already-scheduled meetings. Staff said the HRA already has AV equipment and the city—s technology staff would coordinate recording and posting of meetings.
The motion passed with a unanimous vote. City staff will notify the commissions and ensure scheduling and AV arrangements for the February meetings.
