Parks staff preview ice-skating party, Paws in the Park and JC Park maintenance plans

Parks staff announced an ice-skating party scheduled for Feb. 8 from 1–4 p.m. at Memorial Park featuring free skating, games, music, chili provided by Don Myers and complimentary hot beverages from Caribou; staff said seven sponsors have committed and all activities are free to the public. Staff also described a small dog-themed event, "Paws in the Park / Smooch a Pooch," scheduled for Feb. 13 at Buster Dog Park with donated bandanas and treats.
Staff reported ongoing maintenance projects including irrigation work, door painting at JC Park and snow removal. Staff said they bought equipment to hook to fire hydrants to water fields during droughts to promote root growth at JC Park and stressed the importance of protecting first-year grass establishment. Staff also said they will test an in-storage skating rink this year and will bring recommendations about rink placement and metrics to the board.
