Finance committee flags revenue shifts, schedules March budget listening session

Aaron, speaking for the finance committee, told the Pullman Public Schools board Feb. 12 that recent meetings with administrators and principals show mixed budget signals: small increases in revenue related to enrollment and special education, and rising costs for utilities and transportation.
Aaron said staff are preparing for a budget listening session scheduled for March 19 and are monitoring cash flow monthly to ensure the district stays on track. "By our next meeting, there'll be, the intent to return from our teachers," he said, noting the district will receive clearer staffing and personnel information as state and federal budget actions finalize.
He said the committee reviewed a December cash-flow analysis and expects additional clarity when the legislative session concludes; staff noted several education funding bills have progressed to the Ways and Means Committee. The superintendent and staff said district employees have provided written and remote testimony on several bills and amendments affecting special education, maintenance, operations and transportation funding.
Board members and staff said they will continue financial monitoring, communicate with the community about the March listening session and bring updated figures to future meetings.
