Council approves $38,250 in community environmental grants to nine local projects

The Thousand Oaks City Council approved the Community Funding Review Committee’s recommendations to award $38,250 in fiscal year 2024–25 Community Environmental Enhancement Grants (CEEG) to nine local nonprofit, school and community projects.
Denise Mondon, chair of the Community Funding Review Committee, told the council the CEEG program is funded by interest earned in the city’s solid waste fund and that $45,000 was available this cycle. The application window ran from Nov. 4 to Dec. 5, 2024; the city held an application workshop on Sept. 10 and publicized the grant through email, the City Scene newsletter, the Acorn and the city’s website.
Mondon said nine of 10 applications were qualified for review; one application was disqualified because the proposed beneficiaries were not Thousand Oaks residents. Committee scoring and the approved allocation method led the CFRC to recommend full funding for all nine qualified applications, totaling $38,250.
Community Services analyst Sarah Mayles explained the committee evaluated applications against pre-established criteria. Council members thanked the committee for consolidating review functions into a single committee and asked staff to provide feedback to unsuccessful applicants about why they failed to qualify.
Council member Adam moved to approve the CFRC recommendations (item 13a); the motion passed 5-0. The awards will be administered per the grant program guidelines and the adopted FY 2024–25 budget.
