Local firm donates sunshades for Crooked River Elementary outdoor classroom

Superintendent Joel Hoff described the gift, saying the sunshades block roughly 80% of ultraviolet radiation, are equipped with D-rings to remove or reinstall the covers easily, and are expected to last at least five years. "When I looked at Travis and I said, so just ballpark, like, what are we talking here? And he looked at me and he said, I'm just gonna donate them," Hoff said, acknowledging the company representatives in the audience.
The district noted the shades are a stopgap until trees planted by the district grow large enough to provide natural shade. Staff thanked the donors, identified as Travis, Diesel and Cash, and presented a certificate of appreciation; school and district staff posed for a photo with the donors.
District officials said the donation will allow more frequent use of the outdoor classroom in spring and fall; exact installation timing was not specified at the meeting.
