Nicole Harris, a participant in the Section A program for about 10 years, told attendees during public comment that budgeting counseling and other program resources helped her save money and increase her employment prospects.
Harris said she spent two years enrolled in the family self‑sufficiency program and credited the counseling and community referrals with changing her spending habits and giving her confidence to take on employment risks. “I did a lot of budgeting counseling, which helps me helped me budget my money and save,” she said. “I plan on using the funds to buy a new home.”
Harris, who identified herself as a single parent, described employment as the program’s biggest challenge and said she worried that work hours could jeopardize her program eligibility. She also recommended the program to other families, saying many people do not know it exists and that it offers employment resources, credit counseling and budgeting help. “I would definitely recommend that families take advantage of it,” she said.
The remarks were testimonial in nature; Harris described personal outcomes and intentions but did not propose changes to program rules or request specific board action.
