Board advances policy revisions; cell-phone and classroom-visit rules to be refined after trustee and staff input

Cell-phone rules: Trustees discussed the student PCD policy and asked staff to refine language to match existing building practices. Trustees recommended these changes: make middle-school procedures align with the high-school process (students escorted to the office; device placed in an envelope and logged), ensure the policy specifies that students will not be released from school without a way to communicate to their parent/guardian (exceptions to be handled case-by-case), and simplify the offense progression by removing one intermediate step (board asked staff to consider collapsing four offense tiers into three to reduce tracking burden). Trustees also asked staff to address substitute teachers and to ensure the PCD rules are communicated at substitute orientation.
