Board approves agenda, winter-guard trip and personnel items in routine votes

The Kings Local School District Board of Education conducted several routine roll-call votes at its work session.

The board approved the evening’s agenda by motion and second; the roll call returned all present members in favor. Later the board approved a winter-guard field trip to Indianapolis scheduled for the coming week. The trip was moved, seconded and approved by roll call.

A personnel motion covering resignations, retirements, new employees, supplementals, stipends and temporary employment was presented by Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Eric Spinner and approved by roll call after a motion and second. The board also took a motion to adjourn at the end of the meeting; that motion passed by roll call.

Several other items were discussed and not acted on at the meeting. Treasurer Mark Morrow told the board the district is working with the Ohio Department of Education and workforce on an updated financial report because the district’s five-year forecast showed a future negative cash balance; he said that topic will be discussed in more detail at the next meeting. The board also heard staff presentations about a proposed three-year food-service management agreement with Laughlin Schools and a memorandum of understanding for a personnel-savings plan for eligible teachers; those items were presented for discussion and were not recorded as final roll-call actions in the transcript.
