The change is intended to allow new signage designs and colors for tenants in the strip center; staff recommended approval subject to the conditions in the staff packet and noted the applicant submitted revised plans that change columns and trim to black to match the building.
Kenosha Alderman of the 14th District Kenny Harper spoke in support and said he had been in contact with the owner and was “in full favor of this change to the sign.” Tenant representatives also addressed the commission. Yolanda Adams, of 5717 30th Avenue, identified herself as a long-time Kenosha resident and as the mother of a franchise owner at the site; she said recent improvements to the center have been “amazing,” and that improved signage would help small businesses gain visibility. Property representative Steve Dierheim described tenant improvements and asked for the commission’s support.
Following staff recommendation, a commissioner moved and seconded approval of the conditional-use permit subject to the attached conditions. A roll-call vote recorded ayes by commissioners and aldermen listed on the record and the motion carried; the transcript records ayes by Alderson Michalski, Alderson Ruffalo, Alderman Burkhalow, Commissioner Chris Benninger, Commissioner Michael Foster, Commissioner Vincent Ruffalo, Commissioner Lydia Spotswood and the mayor (recorded as present). The final recorded statement in the public record for the item was “Motion carries.”
The commission’s approval implements the previously discussed conditions and accepts the applicant’s revised color scheme for the columns, per staff’s presentation. No statutory citations or funding actions were read into the record during the public discussion.
